Read my blog, stickylearning. I discuss ideas, resources and approaches to learning.
Learning

OK, this is what I am passionate about! Ever since I first managed a team of people I've realised that performance, motivation, enjoyment, achievement, self-respect, results and so much more all come from learning. Learning about yourself, your work, others' work, other places, other things - it all adds up! There are two things about learning that I find really rewarding. Firstly, personally, there's nothing quite like learning something new and then finding out how useful it is in some real-life situation. Secondly, seeing others' do the same thing!
These are the things that motivate me, that is why I write my stickylearning blog, that is why I work as a learning designer and facilitator, that is why I have built this website.

Learning is designing

Learning traditionally has been about instructing learners, predominantly a one-way process, transferring knowledge from the 'teacher' to the student. From this approach arose the concept of 'instructional design', focusing the design process upon the needs of the 'instructor'. For me, this has changed. Learning design is a multi-pathed non-linear process. Learning design should follow any path that leads to learning. This is why on this site you will find references to social and informal learning, marketing and advertising, graphic design, brain research, storytelling and business communication, technology and blogging and on and on and on...
On the left side of most pages you will find links to external websites. I've included these sites because they have in some way helped to shape how I see learning. A full list of books can be found on the readings page.
